Your “What Should We Do Today?” Summer Bucket List

July has a different energy, it’s the month where plans get a little looser and nights get a little longer. One “quick dinner” somehow turns into three hours, and nobody’s mad about it. You find yourself saying yes more, staying out later, letting things be a less scheduled and a lot more fun. This is the part of summer everyone looks forward to, the perfectly imperfect version, the one that just kind of unfolds.

So instead of a long list of things you should do, we pulled together something better. A bucket list that feels more like a cheat sheet for a really good summer. The ideas you look at and think, “oh yeah… we should totally do that.” Don’t try checking every box, unless that brings you joy, it is more for when you look at each other and ask “What should we do today?” Because the best summer nights can start right at that moment.

✔ Eat ice cream. The kind where you’re not rushing anywhere after.
✔ Grill something on a random weeknight just because you can.
✔ Watch fireworks, big show or neighborhood version.
✔ Go to a drive-in or set up a movie outside.
✔ Tie-dye something and accept that it might turn out terrible.
✔ Take a nap somewhere that feels like summer.
✔ Make popsicles… or buy them and call it a win.
✔ Go swimming, wherever you can find water.
✔ Eat cherries over the sink and deal with the aftermath later.
✔ Catch a sunset on purpose.
✔ Go to the fair and eat something you don’t need.
✔ Start a summer reading stack you may or may not finish.
✔ Have a campfire, even if it’s a small one.
✔ Go hiking or just walk somewhere new.
✔ Find an outdoor concert and stay longer than planned.
✔ Make a playlist that ends up defining the season.
✔ Play mini golf and take it more seriously than you should.
✔ Make smoothies when it’s too hot to cook.
✔ Get a bright mani or pedi just because.
✔ Stargaze, even briefly before heading back inside.

Some of these take a little effort, most don’t and that’s kind of the point. When people talk about loving where they live, this is what they’re actually talking about. Not square footage or finishes. Just the everyday stuff that is your life. The last-minute invites. The “just come over” texts. The nights that go a little longer than expected.

And if you’ve been thinking about a move, even casually, pay attention to what you’re drawn to this month. What you make time for. What you wish you had more of. That tends to tell you a lot more than a saved search ever will.
